CUSTOM3 Event

Our Custom Cubed event was the perfect mix of design and craft all rolled up into one cozy night! The creators of our amazing one-of-a-kind reupholstered, revived and rejuvenated furniture were all there, answering your questions about the many layers involved in each piece, and some creative customers brought their own ideas as well for discussion. Hand made pretzels, mustard and cheese were also served, compliments of Mess Hall &Co.

Stop by the Studio+Store in the next couple weeks to view the collection before we turn it over to our winter launch!

The chairs have sold, but the sofa is still available ($2000). All pieces were refinished by Furniture Revival and upholstered Eli Wyn Upholstery.

Two original Knoll club chairs reupholstered (and looking classy) in our Sailor fabric. Still available at the Studio+Store.

One-of-a-kind custom cubes covered in our various Unison fabrics, available at the Studio+Store ($275 each).

A vintage chair attributed to Jens Risom, refinished and reupholstered in our Maritime fabric. Still available at the Studio+Store ($1200).

A gorgeous vintage chaise lounge covered in our Lush pattern. Still available at the Studio+Store ($1400).

Unison Fabrics for Upholstery at CUSTOM3

Tonight is our collaborative event, Custom Cubed, featuring vintage furniture pieces restored by Unison, Eli Wynn Upholstery, and Furniture Revival. This is the first time we’ve utilized our fabrics primarily for re-upholstery. On view are restored pieces by Jens Risom, Knoll and a few other unknown 70’s designers. We also have a selection of unique cubed ottomans for sale. We worked with photographer, Debbie Carlos, to document the process and will have some of her photographs on view.

All of our fabrics are hand-printed on the East Coast on sailcloth or slub duck. These two qualities prove to be excellent for upholstery, holding up to commercial coatings like flame and stain retardant. Our fabrics have been used for commercial projects throughout the U.S. and now we’d like to offer them directly to our customers.

Our studio is located in Chicago, where we design, execute, inspect, and store our fabrics. We convert the fabric into pillows, table linens, aprons, oven mitts and more. Our sewer is in the neighborhood, thus communication about quality is face to face and on a regular basis. Our bedding? We design that here too, but it is printed and sewn in Portugal. Here are a few behind-the-scene photographs of our inspection process.

Design Showcase on Apartment Therapy

Robert and I had the recent honor of being judges, alongside some pretty influential names in the world of design, Bradford Shellhammer (founder of Fab) and Jaime Derringer (founder of Design Milk), for this year’s Design Showcase on Apartment Therapy. Every year the blog hosts a competition for best new product in the world of modern design. This year there were 30 submissions from around the world and only three won the $10,000 in advertising on AT. We chose the Lug Trugs by local husband and wife design duo Ted and Sharon Burdett of Strand Design. Not only do we love their design sensibility in general (they also make a swanky table) we love these bins because they encapsulate modern and function so well, plus they are hand stitched (!) by Sharon herself. Very cool products, and pretty nice folks too.

We also gave honorable mention to a beautiful line of hand printed textiles by German designer Susanne Thurn.

But most importantly, we want to thank Angela from Post 27  for executing a successful event! She has a knack for bringing Chicago’s design community together in a special way. Here are a couple photos from our booth.
